Grzegorz W. Basak MD, PhD

Professor dr hab. n. med. Grzegorz W. Basak is a specialist in internal medicine and hematology.  Obtained his MD degree from Medical University of Warsaw, Poland (2003, summa cum laudae). In 2005 defended PhD thesis on anticancer vaccination in the experimental model of melanoma (summa cum laudae). Since 2005 employed at Department of Hematology, Oncology and Internal Medicine, the Medical University of Warsaw. Underwent two postdoc trainings at the Temple University (Philadelphia, US) and University of California, San Diego (CA, US) in the field of experimental hematology and stem cell research. Specialist of internal medicine (2011), hematology (2014) and transplantation medicine (2017).  Member of the Scientific Councils of the National Medicines Institute and the Institute of Biotechnology and Antibiotics (since 2016).

  • The role of intestinal microbiome in hematology.

Professional Highlights: 

  • Chairman of the Group on Complications of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT). 
  • Head of the Department and Clinic of Hematology, Oncology and Internal Medicine at the University Clinical Center of the Medical University of Warsaw, 
  • Medical director and co-owner of Saventic Health.


  • Winner of the 2016 Medical Pulse Supertalents competition. 

  • Scholarship holder of the Top500 Innovators Ministry of Science and Higher Education program in research management and commercialization (Cambridge and Oxford, UK, 2015). 

  • Stipend for Outstanding Young Polish Scientists (2012-2015, Polish Ministry of Science).
